Townend Chapbooks Digitised

Front cover of Moll Flanders

Townend is a National Trust property in Cumbria that belonged to a family of yeoman farmers.  The Townend Hall library holds their unique collection of 1331 titles (the earliest being ca. 1600)  including a considerable number of early books not known in any other collection, as well as a collection of Cumbrian and other chap books. We have digitised 46 of these chap books which will be available online in the LUNA Rylands Collection soon.
