A number of pages from the Historie von Joseph, Daniel, Judith und Esther have recently gone live. The work which is in German was printed in 1462 by Albrecht Pfister. Pfister was one of the very first European printers to use movable type and he is credited with two innovations in printing technology; namely printing books in the German language, and printing woodcut illustrations at the same time as the rest of the text. The Historie is a superb example of Pfister’s work with a number of beautiful hand coloured woodcuts. More information about Pfister and this particular work can be found here on the First Impresssions pages.
